Re Roosevelt’s Naval History, it’s amazing that it was a development of his senior thesis at Harvard. The book was published in 1881 when he was 23. According to Wikipedia, it wasa seminal book that ultimately influenced the US Navy.

Around 1:29:00 when talking about USS Texas, you were pointing out the Oil King Space. The Oil King on US Navy ships is an Engineering Petty Officer that is responsible for testing the oil prior to use by the plant. Test are taken and analyzed for water (mostly) and other contaminants when taken aboard from both shore and underway refueling, as well as other test (the numerous fuel tanks) that may be necessary.
