The Rogue Chief

Anglo-American tensions of the 1920s are a classic example of the supposed Thucydides trap theory— there were no cultural/ideological source of tensions like Huntington would propose… there were no real class source tensions like Marx would propose… there were no significant economic/trade conflict source of tensions like economists would propose… it was simply a matter of old big dog on the block encounters new aspiring big dog on the block, therefore they must fight it out (or so the thinking is)

Wouldn’t the X-class submarines be the naval equivalent of Hobart's Funnies?

Ted Jones

I would say that fire ships, fire support monitors, and LCT(R)s would be the naval equivalent of Hobart's Funnies. Maybe even LSDs (Landing Ship Dock).

Q&A Drach, can you discuss IJN early WWII night fighting technologies and techniques? Did they have some kind of enhanched binoculars, like starlight or IR? If so can you discuss details with the rest of us technical nerd warriors?

The big pumps used on the battleships during damage control etc? Are they purchased by the Navy or are they built in the ship as part of the structure?
