Modern nuclear submarines are bad sea boats on the surface; on the surfaces the crew is very seas sick because of the rolling of the boat it is is really really bad from experience. The ballasting for under water has changed as well from mainly side tanks to fore and aft tanks which causes a quicker roll which exacerbates the motion sickness. Take it from me in any reasonable swell you don't want to be on the surface in a modern submarine even if your are a seasoned mariner who does not normally suffer from sea sickness. Regards

Given that most "what if" scenarios presented regarding World War 2 or pre-World War 2 naval construction seem to depend on the famed Alien Space Bats did the various naval powers really have the spare logistical, training, and material resources to really carry out any of the "pie in the sky" programs? And if they wanted to, what would they have to give up elsewhere? Or were there ceilings in manpower or yard space that they would quickly come up against? (For example, if Japan really wanted an expanded building program, where would they find the shipyard space, the steel, and who would get short shift from them doing so?

Sounding the voids of the ship could be done by Carpenter's Mates.

From HMS Illustrious being repaired in Norfolk and her crew to whether and when it is possible to repair the keel of a wooden sailing ship! If I was wearing a hat at my computer, I'd take it off in honor of Drach!
