The IJN originally planned their Midway operations later in June 1942. Had they kept to this timeframe, they would have unknowingly given the Americans the ability for more repairs to Yorktown as well as having Saratoga available, as she had sailed from the West Coast just before the battle began. Had she been available for the Americans, I see three possible uses for her: 1 - alongside Yorktown in the main carrier battle, 2 - swinging around to the south to jump Zuiho and the invasion force, 3 - head north to tangle with Ryujo and Junyo. Of these three scenarios, and any you might also conceive, which were more likely and what outcomes do you think would be plausible?
