I would like your take on the wisdom of the IJN's "conversions," for lack of a better term--i.e. transforming the Mogami, Ise, Hyuga, and Shinano into aircraft carriers or pseudo aircraft carriers.

To elaborate, it did not seem to make a lot of sense. The IJN had an obvious pilot shortage at the time of their conversion, and the ships would seem to have had a better utility as pure heave cruisers and battleships. Furthermore, pilot shortage aside the resources used for the conversions could have been directed at expediting more useful Amagi class carriers. Even acknowledging the supremacy of air power, a battleship that would take 300+ planes to sink it--like Shinano--would be more useful than the aircraft carrier conversion that wasn't even contemplated as a front-line carrier. Thanks, and interested in your thoughts.

Drach a question for the drydock: Chains in weird places - Can you please tell us what the purpose of the chains are in the attached pics? The first is tow pics from the WoWs model of the Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya I also noticed the same chains being wrapped around the bow of the recently released models of other Russian BBs which WG released. The second pic is from HMS Nelson, also modeled in WoWs. This time the chain looks like it could be for towing another ship? If so this seems odd that WoWs would choose to feature this in the model. Please share your mighty wisdom! *** PICS POSTED ON DISCORD***
