The Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc on Lake Michigan does have a submarine, USS Cobia (SS-245), a Gato-class boat, that has the ability to bunk up to 65 people overnight. See the website: https://www.wisconsinmaritime.org/visit/stay-on-the-sub/

Shooting self propelled howitzers from landing craft during the run into the beach was not uncommon. I know it happened on D-Day and I reasonably sure the US Marines used the tactic in the Pacific. Most of the time the idea was to create a creeping barrage on the way in but the Canadians were actually able to hit specific targets. https://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/defence-watch/floating-priests-hammer-nazis-canadian-innovation-on-display-during-d-day
