Its kinda sad that you stopped cating about a great charecter simply cuz he ran from monsters that were picking him apart and killing him..... to me it was great charecter development. He got to see what it means to be a hero compaired to someone who is just a martial artist for an easy life.

Cant judge his reaction based on this one episode you gotta see his other reactions in the future episodes that includes that character which has obviously been recorded already. You already know suiryu since you've seen all the episodes and maybe even the manga. Remember this was still a new character to him in this reaction. Also the fact that he felt bad means he actually cares about the character. It was only during the moment that he ran that he stopped caring but eventually felt sorry when he was being tortured by the monster. You just gotta wait a little bit thats all.
