I think they needed the time (/budget) they filled Reverie with flashbacks in order to polish up Wano. I mean you saw some good animation during this episode which I also count to Wano and it will only get better. You are finally there :D

I literally skipped the flashbacks when these episodes dropped just to enjoy the new content. Flashbacks ruined these episodes but the new content that you get is amazing.

its sad though cause the manga slapped with Reverie, had no fillers or flashbacks and just hit with all the new stuff. Anime deffo botched it up

The intention of the Reverie was for it to be longer, but after 3 chapters the rating in Japan tanked, simply because Luffy and the Strawhats were not in the chapters. People in the West on the other hand thought these chapters were fire just based on the theories that came out of it, with the big straw hat, Inu sitting on the chair, and all the stuff we did get.
