I personally say after watching this episode you guys should watch episode 1 of the 1999 anime on your own because it gives better context to who Kite is. He's basically HxH version of Shanks. The person who made Gon want to become a hunter and told him he had a dad to begin with. The 2011 anime throws him in out of nowhere and gave a few slideshows on the backstory. It's kinda like the equivalent of never showing Shanks until we find out that he's an emperor then they explain how Luffy got the straw hat in a 2 minute flashback.

Kite and that backstory is shown in the 1999 HxH series, I think they assumed people would have seen it already and if not its not so integral to the story that they need to spend much time on it

Also understand, that Kite and Go had a much closer relationship in the manga than in this anime. He was pretty much his mentor and older brother for a little while.
