Luffy trying to pick up that vivre card made sense here. He's already super exhausted, having kept going for hours, cheating his body with Ivan's adrenaline shots way his limits. And at that moment, his adrenaline ran out. So Luffy is pretty much delirious with exhaustion, and sees the one important thing Ace gave him and told him to carry fall. Of course he'd reach for it.

It was sorta established in this episode that Akainu's magma is hotter than fire, so he can burn Ace. Haki and whatnot has nothing to do with it (at least I don't think it does). Swords will pass through a Logia, but if the sword is made out of something that counters the Logia (Luffy vs Enel), it will connect. Ace is made of fire, but he got burned. It took me a long time to realize this lol. I thought it was Haki for a long ass time but I think this makes more sense. DOPE REACTION DON'T STOP WATCHING BECAUSE OF THIS LMAOO <333

This isn't related to one piece but Speedwagon never tried to be in the spotlight. Everything that he did in part one, he did it to support Jonathan. You just kinda misunderstood his actions but I do think it's pretty funny how he annoys you tho lol. Love your reactions keep it up!

Yeah , I think in Oda's mind, magma burns at a hotter temperature than what ace can burn at, so his body can't take it....or magma, due to it's thick liquid like texture, can "smother" fire.,,,

Its crazy that they miss a simple thing while watching the akainu’s punch is that its not about its weak or strong, the fact is that if ace would have used his logia power the punch would have hit luffy by going right through ace, so he used his body without any power

Oda did a great job with establishing Akainu's strength and Ace's personality. We've seen how strong Ace was all these episodes and we just met Akainu this episode. By the time this episode rolled around we all felt like the Whitebeards. We knew Akainu was stronger than Ace, we knew he was doing something stupid and we knew it would turn out bad. For as dope and strong as Ace is, we knew he wasn't touching this man.

You got it on the money imo, this was displayed when they clashed & the magma covered the fire like a blanket as opposed to pushing through it like a beam

I think its more that Ace chose not to turn his body into fire. He wanted to stop the fist so he made his body solid, logia power wont stop the fist hitting luffy.

It’s not about ‘decisions’ it’s his character, he’s just like Luffy. They don’t care if someone talked shit about them but if they talked about their family and friends they would fight them even if they were stronger. Also, Ace used Haki if he didn’t Luffy would’ve burned and died. & I feel yall! I’m still bitter but Oda just wanted to kill him and makes us cry 😭💀

To far away, Ace moved forward why everyone ran back. Honestly the Anime has bad perception on how close and how far people are. In the manga, no one stops, running except Ace. Anime throws in tons of face shots, to stall for time. In the Manga its clear everyone running except Ace, Luffy falls down, no one else is near him, Akainu attacks and Ace jumps in the way.

In the One Piece world some fruits are more inferior to others like Magma beats Fire or Ice beats Snow, even in paramecia fruits like the Ton-Ton Fruit beating the Kilo-Kilo Fruit.

I think theirs a big misconception that Oda doesn't kill characters off, he does, not a lot, but that's what makes him a good writer, if a writer has to depend on a characters death every time to make some sort of big impact in their show, that's a bad writer. To name a few deaths without spoiling anything theirs : Roger, Professor Clover, Nico Olivia, Saul (as far as we know Lycan), Bellmere, Kuina, Banchina, Rouge, Hiriluk. And moving along theirs going to be a lot more deaths that aren't just in backstories.

Oda had to kill off Ace at some point during the series for 2 main reasons: #1 he got hyped up way too much and was on the verge of becoming the most OP character in the show. #2 he and Luffy have the same goal and there is no logical way to explain/justify how Luffy would ever be able to beat him in a 1v1, let alone be willing to even have a "serious" fight with him in the first place. *SPOILERS AHEAD* That's also why Oda changed Sabo's initial wish of becoming a pirate cause Sabo is objectively stronger than Luffy and by making him a revolutionary he made sure that they will never clash on their way to achieve their goals.
