Devil fruits have types not classes they can't be leveled up from one type to another. There's Zoan: as you know are animal transformations. Logia: elemental powers where you can not only use an power like fire or smoke, but completely transform your buddy into it on command as well making it so attacks can just phase through you like with smoker or crocodile. And finally there's paramecia the super power type basically if it doesn't fit into one of the other two types it goes here. Luffy is a paramecia because even though his body completely becomes rubber he can't control rubber like a logia or let attacks go straight through him. And of course there are sub types in these but you'll learn about those more later.

I lowkey disagree Jim... they might find out about it later on if they piece it together but I don’t thing it’s that big of a detail to not explain. Plus all the types have already been presented so a clear clarification wouldn’t hurt anyone.

I agree with Jim. Let them go at their own pace or wait until they ask. It's easy to ruin the fun like that. They don't have to get everything on the first watch. You should know One Piece has multiple reads. Anyway in the anime there is always a reminder about everything later. We all know, they don't, let them enjoy the ride !
