The face you saw Lycan is "The Watcher." Cable is Nathan Summers who was sent into the future to save his life from a techno-organic virus . His goal is to stop this Genocide from happening in Genosha but basically fails every time because it's an "absolute point" that happens in every timeline. Magneto is a former holocaust survivor so this event is huge for his character development
