Hey guys,

Feel like I'm always apologising for delays, but again I'm sorry this has taken so long. While I'm terrible at communication, Naughty Sandbox is always in development, even if the Patreon and socials look quiet!

I'm dropping an impromptu build update, where screenshots & clips etc will follow. Usually it's the other way around, but I haven't had time to record promo.

So instead here's a text rundown of the new things:

Two new SubscribeStar / Patreon exclusive DLC levels

There are two more DLC levels, bringing the total amount of levels to 11 for Patreon and SubscribeStar supporters. These levels and some content contained in them will not be available on Itch.io. The DLC is a Pool Locker Room environment, which may be extended later to include a swimming pool, and an isolated winter Log Cabin with some super immersive sound design.

Spawnable & Configurable Lights

There are now 3 types of spawnable lights, each with configurable options for color & brightness, if the light should cast shadow, or only affect the character. These lights can be placed and rotated anywhere to allow people to create studio style photoshoot sets.

Spawnable Color / Image Plane

A backdrop can be spawned in with its color, size & surface material adjusted. Images from your local harddrive can be imported (the Windows import menu works in non-VR only, but once the image is imported, VR can be toggled back on). The plane can be moved and rotated, and there is no limit to the number of planes you can spawn in.

Spawnable Female Scan Data

Included in the Pool Locker Room DLC is 4 spawnable females, which when spawned can be placed, rotated, scaled, and their surface glossiness adjusted. These scan data objects can be spawned in any level, but player must have the Pool Locker Room DLC in order to access them.

Overhauled Non-VR Photo Mode

There is now a powerful and dedicated Photo Mode, which player must exit VR to access. Pressing P jumps in and out of Photo Mode, and the Mouse Middle Button takes photos in up to 4K resolution. Players can choose where to save their photos, and between the resolutions 720, 1080 and 4K. Exposure, focus zoom, special effect lens filters, and camera rotation allow you most of the controls of a real camera, so should be a huge step up over the previous hand-held camera system. The Photo Mode also has full flight controls, and isn't limited to standing height photos.

Environmental Lighting Control

In every level, the ambient lighting color and brighness can be adjusted, for better control over scene lighting.

Scene Manager

The Levels tab in Player Settings has been moved over to a new Scene UI, which contains the Store for spawnable objects, the Level selection window, and a new Spawned Object manager, which has a control panel for every configurable object in the scene (such as lights) to be controlled from a single place. Saving levels which have had objects spawned in and configured isn't a feature yet, but this is also where players will access their Level Saves in the future.



Aside from some general fixes to UI, UX, overall package size optimization, all the updates for this build have been heavily Photo Mode based. I aimed to put in the groundwork to make it possible to take really nice photography in Naughty Sandbox, since I've seen people being very creative with the basic tools that are already available.
