Hail, mortals! ’Tis I, Hannah Rose, returning from a design jam to tell you just how freaking excited I am for this month’s ARCADIA. We have f̵i̵v̵e̵ six amazing authors (and several consultants and editors and artists—and, as always, many testers) who collaborated to make this issue extraordinary.

Planar Backgrounds by Soraya Een Hajji and Mario Ortegón

These six character origins are packed with inspiration for players and GMs alike! Your next character could be a demiplane traveler who escaped a strange realm to experience the Material World for the first time, an elemental survivor who lived through a natural disaster and became attuned to a certain element, or a void-scarred who has been irrevocably changed by incomprehensible knowledge from the realms beyond reality.

Arcanolinguistics by Leon Barillaro and S.A.M.

It usually doesn’t matter what language you say your spell’s verbal component in. But language is culture, and it reveals what spellcasters from different backgrounds might value or excel at. This article overflows with language-based lore and new rules that change certain spells depending on which language you cast them in. Spells cast in Sylvan grow over time, Goblin lets you reverse the effect of a spell, and spells cast in Orcish become more powerful the more information you have about the target. Plus, there are new spells that can only be cast in certain languages, like the powerful Infernal bargain and the cheerfully annoying Human encore, and rules for learning new languages as you adventure!

The Magewright’s Studio by Cat and Lore Evans

No more boring +1 daggers! These handy tables let you quickly generate intriguing appearances, features, secrets, legends, names, and even unique upgrades for any magic item. There are millions of combinations among these flavorful ideas to make magic items as interesting as the characters who carry them.

You can come hang out on Discord and Reddit to talk with a bunch of other MCDM fans about ARCADIA, The Illrigger, Beastheart and Monstrous Companions, Kingdoms & Warfare, Strongholds & Followers, Flee, Mortals!, and the upcoming MCDM RPG!

This issue is stacked—see you next week on release day!

EVERY SINGLE ONE of these sound amazing. It’s rare that I can anticipate applying all 3 articles asap, but that’s the case here. Thanks Hannah for your work in wrangling the wild monstrosities of imagination, and thanks to the authors for dreaming outside the box!

Martial characters have backgrounds and magic items, too! And when using the Arcanolingustics rules, we suggest allowing martial characters to learn a spell or two in the languages that they speak, so everyone can engage with it.

There is a typo in the Arcanolinguistics title. missing the I after the U.

Is "S.A.M." in the author of Arcanolinguistics a reference to The Workshop Watches? My players LOVED that module, and actually have S.A.M. with them in amulet form right now!

This is one of the rare cases in which I'm super hyped for ALL the articles in an Arcadia issue. It is quite fitting that it goes out (for now?) with such a bang.
