Amazons in Scrubs

fmg-35 universe

Set in 2035.

"Emma, could you pass me that patient file?" Dr. Michael Reed's voice cut through the quiet hum of Metropolitan General Hospital's busy reception area.

Dr. Emma Thompson looked up from her computer screen, blinking to refocus her tired eyes. "Sure, Michael," she replied, reaching for the folder. As she stretched her arm across the desk, a dull ache pulsed through her shoulder. She winced slightly, rolling the joint to ease the discomfort.

"You alright?" Michael asked, his brow furrowing with concern.

Emma nodded, forcing a smile. "Yeah, just a bit sore. Probably from all these extra shifts we've been pulling lately."

It wasn't entirely a lie. The hospital had been unusually busy over the past week, with an influx of women complaining of mysterious aches and pains. But deep down, Emma knew this was different. The soreness felt... odd. Almost like growing pains, but surely that was impossible for a 28-year-old woman.

As if on cue, Nurse Liu Wei hurried over, her usually neat ponytail slightly dishevelled. "Dr. Thompson, Dr. Reed, we've got another one," she said, her voice tinged with worry. "A woman in her thirties, complaining of muscle soreness and... well, you should probably see for yourself."

Emma and Michael exchanged glances before following Wei to Exam Room 3. As they entered, Emma's eyes widened. The patient, a slender woman with short brown hair, was perched awkwardly on the examination table. Her blouse, which looked to be a size too small, strained across her chest and arms in a way that suggested recent, rapid muscle growth.

"Good morning, I'm Dr. Thompson," Emma began, approaching the woman. "What seems to be the problem, Ms...?"

"Carter. Melissa Carter," the woman replied, her voice tight with discomfort. "And the problem is... well, look at me! I've gained ten pounds of muscle in a week, and I swear I've grown four inches taller! Is this some kind of hormonal issue?"

Emma began her examination, noting the visible definition in Melissa's arms and shoulders. As she palpated the woman's bicep, she couldn't help but marvel at the firmness of the muscle. It was unlike anything she'd seen before in a non-athlete.

"Have you been working out more than usual, Ms. Carter?" Michael asked, jotting notes on the patient's chart.

Melissa shook her head emphatically. "No, that's just it. I haven't changed anything about my routine. This just... happened."

As Emma continued the examination, she became acutely aware of a tingling sensation in her own arms. She flexed her fingers experimentally, surprised to find her grip felt somewhat stronger than usual.

"We'll run some tests," Emma assured Melissa. "Blood work, hormone panel, the works. We'll get to the bottom of this."

After finishing up with Melissa, Emma found herself in the staff lounge, absently rubbing her forearms. The tingling had spread, and now her entire upper body felt... different. Tighter, somehow.

Liu entered, carrying a tray of coffee cups. "Thought we could all use a little boost," she said with a tired smile. As she set the tray down, Emma noticed something odd.

"Liu, have you... have you been working out?"

The nurse looked up, surprise flickering across her face. "No, why do you ask?"

Emma gestured to Wei's arms. The sleeves of her scrubs, which had fit perfectly last week, now hugged her biceps snugly. "You look... different. More toned."

She glanced down at herself, her eyes widening slightly. "I... I hadn't really noticed. But now that you mention it, my clothes have been feeling a bit tight lately."

Before they could discuss it further, Dr. Olivia Parker, the hospital's administrator, strode into the lounge. Despite the chaos of the past week, she looked as put-together as ever in her crisp white coat.

"Ladies, gentleman," she nodded to Michael, who had just entered behind her. "We need to talk about these mysterious cases we've been seeing."

Over the next hour, they compared notes on the increasing number of women coming in with unexplained muscle growth and height increases. As they talked, Emma couldn't shake the feeling that something momentous was happening.

A couple of days passed, and the changes became impossible to ignore. Emma found herself growing steadily taller and more muscular. Her once-slender frame was developing curves she'd never had before, her arms and legs taking on a defined musculature that drew surprised looks from patients and colleagues alike.

One morning, a couple of days after that first meeting, Emma stood in front of the full-length mirror in the staff changing room, barely recognising herself. She'd grown nearly three inches, putting her at 5'7", and her body had transformed dramatically. Her shoulders were broader, tapering down to a narrow waist. Her legs, once slim and toned, now rippled with muscle when she moved.

As she struggled to button her lab coat over her newly expanded chest, Wei walked in. Emma's jaw dropped. The nurse, who had started at a petite 5'4", now stood eye-to-eye with Emma. Her body had undergone an even more dramatic transformation, her frame packed with lean, dense muscle.

"Wei," Emma breathed, "you look..."

"Enormous?" Wei supplied with a wry smile. "Yeah, tell me about it. Had to buy new scrubs this morning. And look at this." She flexed her arm, her bicep swelling to an impressive peak. "I could barely do a push-up two weeks ago. Now I'm even bigger than my husband!."

Emma shook her head in disbelief. "This is... it's unprecedented. And it's not just us. Have you seen the news? It's happening all over the world."

Before Emma could respond, Michael burst into the room, his eyes wide. "Emma, Wei, you need to see this. We've got a patient who's just hit seven feet tall."

As they rushed to follow Michael, Emma couldn't help but wonder: how much bigger would they get? And more importantly, what was causing this extraordinary change?

As the week progressed, the stream of patients coming into Metropolitan General became a flood. Women of all ages poured through the doors, each with a similar story: rapid growth, increasing muscle mass, and a mixture of fear and fascination with their changing bodies.

Emma and Liu found themselves at the forefront of this phenomenon, not just as medical professionals but as living examples of the transformation. By mid-week, both women had grown to 6'2", their once-average frames now towering over most of their male colleagues.

"Liu," Emma called out, her voice carrying easily over the bustling emergency room, "we've got another one in Exam Room 4."

Liu nodded, ducking slightly to avoid hitting her head on a low-hanging light fixture. As she made her way across the room, she couldn't help but notice the way her thighs brushed against each other with each step, the fabric of her scrubs stretching taut over her increasingly muscular legs.

In Exam Room 4, they found a young woman perched anxiously on the edge of the examination table. Her eyes widened as Emma and Liu entered, taking in their impressive statures.

"I'm Dr. Thompson, and this is Nurse Liu," Emma introduced them, her voice gentle despite its new, deeper timbre. "What seems to be the problem, Miss...?"

"Jenkins. Sarah Jenkins," the woman replied, her voice trembling slightly. "I... I think I'm turning into one of you. An Amazon, I mean."

Emma and Liu exchanged glances. It wasn't the first time they'd heard that term used to describe their condition.

"Can you tell us more about what you're experiencing, Sarah?" Liu asked, her pen poised over the patient chart.

Sarah nodded, running a hand through her hair. "It started three days ago. At first, it was just soreness, like I'd done an intense workout. But then..." She gestured to her body, which was visibly straining against her clothes. "I've grown six inches in three days, and I can see muscles I never had before."

As Emma began the examination, she couldn't help but marvel at the changes in Sarah's body. The young woman's arms, once slender, now boasted visible bicep definition. Her shoulders had broadened, giving her a V-shaped torso that tapered to a still-narrow waist.

"Have you experienced any other symptoms?" Emma asked, her stethoscope cool against Sarah's back. "Increased appetite? Changes in sleep patterns?"

Sarah nodded vigorously. "I'm hungry all the time. And I'm sleeping like a rock, but I wake up feeling... energized. Powerful, even."

Liu jotted down the information, her own muscles flexing visibly as she wrote. "That's consistent with what we've been seeing," she said. "Your body is undergoing rapid changes, which requires a lot of energy."

As they finished the examination and sent Sarah for blood tests, Emma and Liu found themselves alone in the room. Emma leaned against the wall, her increased height making the action look almost comical.

"Liu," she said softly, "we're running out of answers to give these women. Hell, we're running out of answers for ourselves."

Liu nodded, absently rubbing her bicep, which had swollen to the size of a softball. "I know. But what can we do? We're flying blind here, Emma. No one knows what's causing this or how to stop it."

Before Emma could respond, Dr. Michael Reed poked his head into the room. His eyes widened slightly as he took in the two women, a reaction that was becoming increasingly common among their male colleagues.

"Ladies," he said, his voice a mix of awe and discomfort, "Dr. Parker wants to see us in her office. Now."

As they made their way to Dr. Parker's office, Emma couldn't help but notice the way people in the hallway parted to let them pass. It wasn't just their height anymore; their presence seemed to command attention in a way it never had before.

Dr. Olivia Parker's office, once spacious, now felt cramped with Emma, Liu, and Michael squeezed in. Even though Dr. Parker hadn't shown any signs of growth, she still had that commanding aura around her.

"I've just gotten off a call with the CDC," she began without preamble. "They're calling it the FMG-35 virus. Female Muscular Growth."

"A virus?" Emma echoed, her brow furrowing. "But how? We haven't detected any typical viral markers in the blood work."

Dr. Parker shook her head. "They don't know. What they do know is that it's affecting approximately 90% of adult women worldwide. The transformation seems to last about two weeks from the onset of symptoms."

Liu leaned forward, her movement causing the chair to creak ominously. "And after those two weeks?"

"As far as they can tell, the changes become permanent," Dr. Parker replied, her voice heavy with the weight of this information. "But, as I said, everything is still pretty new and we are learning new things about this virus every day, so they might find the origin of it which will help us to find a cure."

The room fell silent as they all processed this. Emma found herself staring at her hands, marvelling at how they seemed to grow more powerful with each passing day.

"What do they want us to do?" Michael asked, breaking the silence.

Dr. Parker sighed. "For now, continue monitoring and documenting the changes on each patient's record. Take daily measurements, blood samples, the works. We need to gather as much data as possible."

As they left Dr. Parker's office, Emma caught her reflection in a window. At 6'5", she towered over Michael. Her lab coat, which had been loose just days ago, now strained across her shoulders and chest. She flexed her arm experimentally, watching in fascination as her bicep swelled to an impressive peak.

"It's incredible, isn't it?" Liu's voice startled her out of her reverie. The nurse had grown even more dramatically, now standing at a statuesque 6'9". Her scrubs, despite being the largest size available, looked painted on, every muscle clearly defined beneath the thin fabric.

Emma nodded, a mix of emotions swirling within her. Fear, certainly, of the unknown future that lay ahead. But also a growing sense of excitement, of power. "Yeah," she said softly, "it really is."

As the week drew to a close, the changes in Emma and Liu had become truly staggering. Emma, now standing at 6'8", found herself constantly aware of her new size and strength. Simple tasks like opening doors or picking up patient charts required a delicate touch to avoid unintentional damage.

Liu, on the other hand, had shot up to an astounding 7'1". Her transformation was even more dramatic than Emma's, her body a sculpted masterpiece of feminine muscle. As she strode through the hospital corridors, her powerful thighs brushing against each other with each step, she drew stares of awe and intimidation in equal measure.

On Friday evening, as they prepared to end their shift, Emma and Liu found themselves in the locker room, marveling at their reflections in the full-length mirror.

"I can't believe this is really happening," Emma murmured, running a hand along her arm, feeling the dense muscle beneath her skin. "A week ago, I was struggling to open pickle jars. Now I feel like I could bend steel bars with my bare hands."

Liu chuckled, the sound deep and rich. "I know what you mean. Yesterday, I accidentally crushed a blood pressure cuff because I wasn't paying attention to my grip strength."

As they changed out of their work clothes - a challenge in itself, given how ill-fitting everything had become - Emma couldn't help but wonder about the future. "What do you think will happen when the two weeks are up? When we stop growing?"

Liu paused, her massive frame half-turned towards Emma. "I don't know," she admitted. "But I have a feeling our lives - everyone's lives - are about to change in ways we can't even imagine yet."

As they left the hospital, ducking through doorways and drawing shocked stares from passersby, Emma and Liu knew they were standing on the precipice of a new world. A world where women like them - Amazons, as people had started calling them - would redefine what it meant to be female, to be strong, to be human.

The first act of their story was drawing to a close, but the true transformation - of themselves, of society, of everything they knew - was only just beginning.

As the second week drew to a close, Metropolitan General had transformed almost as dramatically as its female staff. Improvised reinforcements have been made to furniture, and some doorframes had been altogether removed to stop the patients and staff from constantly hitting their heads on them

Dr. Emma Thompson, now a towering 7'3", found herself constantly adapting to her new reality. Her once-petite frame had blossomed into an awe-inspiring amalgamation of height, curves, and muscle. As she made her rounds, she had to duck under the remaining doorframes and watch her elbows to avoid knocking over equipment.

"Good morning, Mrs. Patel," Emma greeted her patient, her voice a rich contralto that seemed to fill the room. "How are we feeling today?"

Mrs. Patel, a middle-aged woman who had grown to 6'11" over the past two weeks, looked up at Emma with a mixture of relief and lingering disbelief. "Better, Dr. Thompson. The growing pains have finally stopped."

Emma nodded, making a note on the chart. "That's consistent with what we've been seeing. It appears the transformation stabilizes after about two weeks."

As she continued her examination, Emma marvelled at how quickly she'd adapted to her new strength. Just days ago, she'd been terrified of hurting patients during routine procedures. Now, she handled Mrs. Patel with a delicate touch that belied her massive frame.

"Doctor," Mrs. Patel said hesitantly, "will I... will we ever go back to normal?"

Emma paused, choosing her words carefully. "Mrs. Patel, I don't think there's going to be a 'normal' to go back to, at least not for now. But I can assure you, we're all in this together. We'll figure out how to navigate this new world."

After finishing with Mrs. Patel, Emma made her way to the nurse's station, where Nurse Liu Wei was updating patient records. At 8'2", Liu had become something of a legend in the hospital. Her incredible height and musculature made her an imposing figure, yet her gentle demeanor and skilled care had endeared her to patients and staff alike.

"Liu," Emma called out, having to tilt her head back slightly to meet the nurse's eyes, "have you seen the latest memo from Dr. Parker?"

Liu nodded, her movement causing nearby pens to rattle on the desk. "About the emergency staff meeting? Yes, I was just about to mention it."

As if summoned by their conversation, Dr. Olivia Parker rounded the corner. At 5'8", she now looked almost comically small next to Emma and Liu, yet her presence still commanded respect.

"Ladies," she addressed them, her neck craned to meet their eyes, "I'm glad I caught you. We need to discuss the long-term implications of these changes and your roles here at the hospital"

They made their way to the conference room, which had been hastily modified with higher chairs and a larger table. As they settled in, joined by Dr. Michael Reed and a few other staff members, the contrast between the changed and unchanged was stark.

"Right," Dr. Parker began, her voice firm despite her now-diminutive stature, "as of today, it appears your transformations have stabilised."

She paused, looking around the room. "What we need to focus on now is adaptation. Both for ourselves and for our patients."

Emma leaned forward, her massive arms resting on the table. "What exactly does that mean, Olivia? Are we expected to just... carry on as normal?"

Dr. Parker shook her head. "There's no 'normal' anymore, Emma. We're going to have to rewrite every protocol, retrain for every procedure. And that's just the beginning."

Liu spoke up, her deep voice resonating in the room. "We're also going to need to address the psychological impact. Many of our patients are struggling to cope with their new bodies."

Dr. Reed, looking somewhat uncomfortable sandwiched between Emma and Liu, stealing glances at their huge forearms here and there.

The room fell silent as they all contemplated the magnitude of the changes they were facing.

"There's one more thing," Dr. Parker said, her tone grave. "The hospital board is considering... specialized roles for our transformed staff."

Emma felt a knot form in her stomach. "What do you mean, 'specialized roles'?"

Dr. Parker sighed. "They're suggesting that staff who've undergone the most dramatic transformations might be better suited for certain tasks. Heavy lifting, security, that sort of thing."

The room erupted into protests. Liu's voice, powerful enough to drown out the others, boomed, "We're medical professionals, not bodyguards!"

Dr. Parker raised her hands for quiet. "I know, I know. I'm fighting this, I promise you. But we need to be prepared for these kinds of attitudes. The world is changing, and not everyone is going to adapt gracefully."

As the meeting wound down, Emma found herself standing by the window, staring out at the city. From her new vantage point, everything looked different. Smaller. More fragile.

Liu joined her, placing a comforting hand on Emma's shoulder. "Penny for your thoughts, Dr. Thompson?"

Emma turned, looking up slightly at her colossal friend. "I'm just thinking... two weeks ago, we were normal women living normal lives. Now..." she gestured to their reflection in the window, "now we're something else entirely. Amazons, they're calling us."

As they stood there, two titans overlooking a world that suddenly seemed so small, Emma couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning. The virus had changed their bodies, yes, but the real transformation - of society, of relationships, of what it meant to be human - was only just beginning.
