Thanks for introducing Mishima and this novel to me, and for hosting this Bookends meeting. I suffered quite bit of "the yips" myself during it, was always a few beats behind...But here are two of many lines in "Confessions" that were so good: "...that hot-pink smell, like hot sugared milk" (p73); and "...the muscles of the clouds were pale as alabaster" (p86). Thank you for joining us! This book was really not what I was expecting based on what I (at the time we picked it) knew about Mishima. But! I found myself bowled over by the craft on display and I'm not sure I've come across any writer with a perspective quite like Mishima.
