Given his...inconsistent resume (he also wrote "Beauty and the Beach" and "Challenge of the Samurai" alongside this one), I'm admittedly intrigued that, of the five or six core writers established in the Kanto saga, it was Hideki Sonoda who was ultimately chosen to replace Shudo for writing duties on the movies (I think he wrote or co-wrote every Pokemon movie from Spell of the Unown until somewhere in Kalos) instead of the typically-more-consistent Tomioka (although his time will come, albeit decades later) or Junki Takegami (who wrote the decidedly-more cinematic episodes ironically bookending this one). Was it his methodology? His work ethic? His working relationship with Shudo that simply enabled him to luck into the gig full-time after the former left? Does anyone have any further information on this?
