That Mareep EMS guy is the only disabled character in Pokemon? But what about Howard Cli- - actually, now that I think about it, never mind. Either way it's an alarming level of exclusion for over 20 seasons, similar to how they've still yet to include a canonically queer character. On that front here's hoping they actually follow up/confirm Goh's apparent crush on Ash in his first episode of the recent season. (Still feels like a long shot, but there's no harm in dreaming.)

Your thoughts on this episode sum up the entirety of Johto imo. A lot of great ideas and a lot of great execution, but not much great execution OF great ideas. Rollercoaster fluff.

This is honestly why I love to see people review Japanese media: it’s interesting to see the differences in how the Japanese plot stuff out versus how Westerners expect it to be. It’s interesting how Japanese media doesn’t seem to consider the conflict to be as important as story’s premise and setting.
