Vere St. Leger Goold was a Wimbledon finalist in 1879. In 1907, he was sentenced to life in prison on the island of French Guyana for his involvement in the death and dismemberment of a wealthy socialite in Monte Carlo. I also discuss the long held legend that only two men have ever escaped from Devil's Island, one of them being Henri Charriere, the author of Papillon.
