I made my mother sleep in my room for 2 weeks after seeing The Exorcist. As a Catholic going to Catholic schools it freaked me out. There are videos on YouTube where exorcists describe what is like and answer questions. The two priests I saw answering questions acted like it was just a job and have no issues relaxing at the end of the day. They do make people who may be possessed see a medical doctor, see a therapist and whatever else they think would help them rule out demonic possession. They did say people need to get their issues sorted out once the exorcism is complete (seems like they often require several sessions) so an exorcism is not a magic procedure which makes the person's problems disappear. One of them said exorcisms were helpful for people with eating disorders (bulimia, anorexia).
