Remember the latchkey kids of the late 60s, 70s and 80s? Generation of kids left home alone after school because moms went to work. I was one and even had to stay home alone if I was sick. Granted, I wasn’t a toddler but 9 or 10. None of that would fly today. I was babysitting at 12, all summer to earn money.

Yes. There were Tv news segments 'concerned' about latch key kids. Lots of talk about it back then. Today even if parents are home, the kids are usually ignored as everyone is on their own 'device.' Yeah a lot of parents used to think 10 or 12 was 'big enough' to watch other kids, even if unofficially, watching a sibling(s) or walking them to school. I recall someone telling me "Oh (their kids) are safe, (8 year old) walks (6 year old) to school." I didn't react but just thought how unaware. Like a predator couldn't take both? Even a kid walking with a dog for protection: Unless it's a vicious, finely trained attack dog, predators don't care. How many dogs have returned alone or tried to run after a car to no avail. The baby sitting thing too. Not at 12 but at 15 I was put to use babysitting various people's kids. I mean, old enough to understand situations or phone for help, but not exactly adult.
