I feel like Kirk was supposed to meet her and possibly take her to get her abortion and either he didn’t show or he set her up with a doc who accidentally killed her doing the abortion so it was out of fear he came forward as he didn’t want blame. Payoffs were and are still there. Pay a lady enough and she might agree to abort or if she does keep the child she stays quiet and life goes on for the father as he wishes. Sad
