Middle school teacher here. A couple of observations: 1. Middle school aged kids LOVE XXXTentacion, my own included. It appals me that they are so drawn to his music, even knowing that he was a disgusting excuse for a human. I suppose it’s no different than the conversations you’ve had about Don Henley, R Kelly, etc. I plan to do my small part by making sure my kid knows at least part of what made him so awful. I’m not hopeful it will help. 2. I’ve had many conversations with other co-workers about the Brittany Zamora situation, and others along the same vein. In all of the 16 years I’ve been in the classroom, not once have I ever looked at a student and felt an ounce of physical attraction. None. Zamora was considerably younger than I am now or when i started teaching, but the fact that she was involved with a student who is only slightly older than my own child makes my stomach turn. Its absolutely on the district if they were warned and chose to look the other way. That’s some serious mental illness at play.
