This is an unusual post where on this fragment from my recent painting I want to show how many different hues I've been trying to incorporate into my portraits to make faces look more realistic.

Our skin has so many different tones, it’s not just one solid color. This seems to be obvious but I’ve seen so many paintings where people just ignore this fact and limit themselves in the variety of colors they use to paint skin. If that’s the effect you’re going for then yes it has a place to be, otherwise I think it’s important to try and “catch” all those hues and color changes in order to make your portraits more lifelike and interesting :)
