As always, Baxter's not one to waste time. And neither are we apparently because the monthly beta build is already here!

Important Notes To Play the Beta:

  • You access Baxter's Moments by clicking a yellow button on the righthand side of the Step 3 Moment selection screen. It's not a fully designed screen in this beta, it's got temporary assets
  • Baxter's DLC begins in the Step 3 opening. You can play from the beginning of the story until that point or start a new file and use an option at the start of the beta to skip right to Step 3
  • Save files from this beta won't work in other beta builds or the main game. You can load saves from the main game in the beta but you need to play Step 3 from the beginning to see the new content

New Content:

  • The entirety of a new Moment- Drinks
  • 26,000 new words overall

[There is some art missing during this Moment. In the final version it'll have some cut-in images. You can probably tell where they're meant to appear, haha]

We're at 3/5 Baxter Moments done. It's all coming together quite well. I feel like Step 3 is gonna be finished before we know it. And I'm happy people have enjoyed hanging out with the B-man so far. Hopefully this latest outing will be rated highly as well 😌

Morning Baxter is cute , I wish we got the option to comfort him more , he being harsh to himself kinda make me sad, I love him so much , i can't wait for future update

So stoked to get an in depth look at his character 😍 I am trying to be patient and wait for the finished DLC, but all these bits are tempting me! 😭💓

Well then... It was, yet again, absolutely wonderful. I can't even express my feelings in any rational form or way. It's interesting, really. This... well... this whole thing, the whole... let's say "core issue" here... It's more or less in line with what I expected. Which means I'm in a way relieved to have read the character well enough from the base game and Cove's mariage DLC to actually have expected that sort of issues and themes from his DLC. But at the same time, even if it's something I had expected and mentally prepared myself for... well... It still hurts. It hurts so bad. But it's so interesting and touching at the same time. Baxter always was my favorite character, really, but ever since that line in the mariage DLC, when he said he's just one person someone would meet in their life, while a man like Cove is material to be someone's ONE person. Well, that hurt so bad, and made me even more eager for the DLC. And now that this very issue - or at least underlying problems - starts to unfold... well... It's certainly a rollercoaster. I can't even imagine Step 4 if Step 3 deals with that already. But I also can't wait for the gratification the ending will undoubtely bring! That aside, this time I didn't have a lot of issues in terms of bugs and what not. Just two small things: - After selecting comfort and initiative levels with Baxter, and picking an option at the choice right after (in my case my MC thought Baxter is charming), the initiative tutorial screen reappears for like a split second before the game proceeds as normal. - In Hang, if going back home to put a shirt on, I got an error with an exception that says KeyError: u'cover' once joining the others back. I can ignore it fortunately. I believe it skips a little bit of dialogue, but nothing game breaking.

My heart is still aching for my Baxter! I just finished all of his moments, and to see how hard he is on himself, ahhh! Anyway, I decided to play the non-Baxter moments as well, and I've thought this for a while, but I wish in Late Shift while talking to Baxter you can tell him about the clucking like a chicken and being scared off by the mean not-grandparents. I also wish there were more intimate moments, even if brief, sprinkled in the other moments he appears. Can't even stand beside him and hold his hand on the boat. Haven't played the fundraiser one yet, but can you take him as your date? Sorry, I know you're working super hard on his DLC atm and I LOVE all the work going into it. Just a few thoughts I had is all.

Absolutely loved the new moment. All the feels for sure, oh my gosh my heart is hurting! My only issue/concern (insert better term here) I guess would be the lack of 'high initiative' moments. I know this is just a DLC, and by that standard compared to the rest of the game, we can't expect Cove-levels of affection, but I think it'd be nice to have those slight touches, or hand holding moments. I've only played through what Moments we do have currently with an extremely shy MC so there may be things I haven't seen yet. It's also completely understandable if it's just not in his character to do those things, but it just feels really lacking when the last two moments can both have a kiss. Even if it just sprinkling them in more in the normal Moments like the boating one or Late Shift.

Question, do u guys ever plan on making a version for iPad/iPhone/ios?

Konoi Kurozora

When I played the previous update, I was told Late Shift was not updated yet to reflect the DLC! I don't know if that's still the case, but it's likely - so new things may come up later.

i wouldnt anticipate major changes to cove's moments, because they are COVE'S. so like for the charity event, nah i doubt you could take baxter cause that moment is a special one between MC and cove. its probably tough to work out a middle ground between cove having the spotlight with baxter being your boyfriend.

gbpatch

I'm sorry, those won't be added to Cove's story. You won't be able to take him to the charity event or have long additional conversations or romantic encounters in someone else's Moments. There will be some references and changes so the continuity makes sense, but nothing especially significant.

gbpatch

I'm sorry, that's not really something that can be done. You're not dating Baxter for most of Sightseeing, so you can't be physically romantic until the end, but then that is an option. You can be romantic pretty much all through Hang if you are dating, there are chances to kiss/hold hands/flirt/share his shirt and ice cream treat. The side character DLCs don't add romance to scenes outside of their DLC. There has to be limits on how much content these already huge additions require, and that's one. And in this Moment, Baxter spends the entire time struggling. At the end he says clearly that he thinks he can't be difficult at all and must just be enjoyable, the point is that the MC doesn't agree and likes him even if he's not always able to be perfectly tending to the MC. Making him do romantic touching in this Moment, when he's doubting himself and uncomfortable and only pretending to be okay, would be kind of terrible, aha.

gbpatch

I'm afraid there's no set plans for it, but it's not impossible. Maybe someday after the game is entirely finished.

Hanzie_Bearz

that was the most fun thing ive ever read

Ooh, okay! I understand better now. Thanks for taking the time to respond and explain things ^^

Konoi Kurozora

You're welcome! I actually got another bug (I think?) that's a bit strange. It's in Sightseeing - so far I always did the Moments in the order they released, and in that moment I've picked the heavy ball for bowling. This time I've switched to doing Sightseeing before Hang, and suddenly I only have the medium or light ball to chose from, which doesn't make much sense so I'm pretty sure it isn't intentional. An afterthought is that it may be because we can determine our MC's amount of muscles in Hang, but that doesn't really mean much to be honest - in real life I can't say I look as if I had a lot of muscle, but I'm very strong, for example. And well, my MC has been sportsy since Step 1.

gbpatch

Yeah, you can't use the heaviest ball if your MC has a small or more delicate physique.

gbpatch

No problem! And there are still two other Moments in Step 3 to spend happier times with him.

Konoi Kurozora

Yeah, I get it, but it's mostly the fact I didn't have the opportunity to set it yet if I didn't do Hang first, so that means that's an option that's automatically excluded, basically. Ultimately it doesn't change anything in the story, but it's a bit frustrating not to have the option when I should, if that makes sense?

This new moment stressed me out. 😢

Junexzee

(There's some spoilers in this comment for those haven't played it yet) AAaah, this new moment was just. . . absolutely amazing. I loved every moment of it. From finding out he isn't a morning person, him fumbling just to get ready, blushing when we suggest driving since we aren't as sleepy, to seeing and discovering the deeper side of him that he struggles with was just so, so well-written. I loved the playfulness both the MC and Baxter have with each other, and just seeing his facade slowly (but finally) break and opening up to us is just what I personally like to see. I love how three-dimensional he is (not saying Cove and Derek aren't, but his character hits deeper for me), and man, I really teared up reading this moment. The way y'all connected the jazz bar play with what he's similarly going through, was spectacular. I wouldn't have found anything more fitting for him, giving us a new wonderful experience and meaningful insights. I'm looking forward to see the relationship we have with him develop more!

This new moment was so amazing. It had me stressed and swoony and happy and very anxious for the next... Please, please, please give us a happy ending prologue with Baxter, I need it in the worst way 😢

gbpatch

Oh yeah, if you haven't done Hang yet that wasn't meant to apply. The exception flags were missing. It won't happen in future builds!

Supershybutpushingthroughit

Wow wow wow, what a moment. It kind of hurt but it’s so nice to see the depths and insecurities of Baxter that we were introduced to in the DLC. I love him even more now.

Nikkisama

I just wish there there was an option to tell Baxter that Morning Baxter is cute. There is a level of vulnerability and unpolished behavior that feels raw. It makes you love Baxter more, but as he beats himself up over it and makes himself out to be a villian, I just want to tell him that Morning Baxter is cute and loving and I'm just a little disappointed to not see shirtless Baxter when he started to undress.
