And Darren is back again for Step 2! A true angel baby 💕. At this point she's aware of what being trans is and that she is, but publicly still goes by Darren and he/him (though some people call her "Ren" as a nickname which she likes). She hasn't gotten any less awkward than she was as a kid, maintaining her status in town as a 'lovable screwup/slacker'. Darren is relived to be liked and scared to lose that, so she willingly goes along with the perspective. But inside she dreams of having her efforts be more appreciated. Even if she's not the coolest socially or highly ranked grade-wise, she tries her best. 

One great strive is that she has an easier time dealing with other girls now, even being able to form a delicate friendship of sorts with Tamarack. (And potentially with a female MC too, if you choose to befriend her.)

Ren and Qiu have of course remained good friends over the years, despite some strain on her part when it comes to Qiu being very much out with their gender neutral identity and her definitely not being terribly open with her own. But she is grateful to have their support in all things.
