Hello everyone! Attached, you will (finally) find a link to my full length review and reaction of Season 3 Episode 12 of The Expanse! I am definitely very happy that I watched both of these episodes back to back!!! The shorter, edited version and episode 13 will be posted over the next couple of minutes. The protomolecule is basically just an automated construction tool. It gets sent somewhere, takes whatever biomass is on hand, and uses it to build a gate, and then reports in that the job's done. I don't know if it's use of Miller is a function of just making use of whatever material it finds, or if it changed a bit since it absorbed more complicated life (remember, it was sent billions of years ago, and would have just encountered organic soup rather than sentient beings).

The builders of the ring gates are so far ahead of humanity and their understanding of reality, sentience are so alien from us. We cannot really use our current definition of AI, sentience try to fit the builders or the even their AI. From the builders of the ring gate, even their AI are smarter and more sentience than any of us. Think of it this way, the things they build, the protomolecule and absorb enough or Miller and Julie that Holden and Miller (before he was absorbed) has trouble to tell when the human ends and the protomolecule begin.
