And finally, here is my full length review of and reaction to Season 2 Episode 9 of Penny Dreadful! This one took quite a while to finish processing and uploading - but it's here at last!

It really was heartbreaking! I actually went back and re-watched the ending today. I think I was a little too upset in the moment to fully focus on everything that was being said and wanted to go over it again, knowing what was coming. I have to say that the second time around, I found it to be simultaneously more heartbreaking and yet more powerful. Sembene telling Ethan "I am just a man," whereas he, Ethan, had been chosen by God, and therefore deciding to sacrifice himself, was a lot to take in. But more powerful than that, for me, was Sembene looking Ethan in the eye and calling him his friend (and reminding us of his earlier scene, telling Ethan he knows him to be a good man). Sembene feels he's making the right choice - but also knows what killing him will do to Ethan. In the moment of his own death, he's trying to comfort Ethan, and emphasizing that this was his own choice. He doesn't want Ethan to blame himself. Really powerful stuff. I feel so badly for the both of them!

This is one of those shows that will completely destroy your heart and give you a powerfully beautiful moment all at once. No One does it better than Penny Dreadful. This S2 finale is one of my all time fave eps!
