Good evening everyone! Attached, you'll find my full length review and reaction of the second episode of Chernobyl. My camera started to die with about fifteen minutes left in the episode. So, just a head's up, that things get a little darker at that point (and I had to divide up the overlay for the episode itself). Sorry about that! The shorter, edited version will be posted in just a couple of minutes, followed by Hannibal, Good Omens, Handmaid's Tale, and Jessica Jones. It's a big posting night for me! Thanks all!

All the best,

Molly

@Scott Fellows While they did declare an emergency within 30 minutes, saying that they 'informed' the people and the press is giving them a bit too much credit. Even officials had difficulty getting accurate and up-to-date information from the plant initially. See the 'Emergency declared'-section here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Mile_Island_accident#Emergency_declared

@M. A. Well confusion and miscommunication happens with all mass disasters. There are so many parties involved and events happening at speed, that it is inevitable. It's the stuff all of us get to critique at a granular level from the comfort of our armchairs. The Soviets on the other hand were completely consumed with the idea of hiding the truth from everyone. Had Gorbachev not been in power it would have been far worse. His predecessors Andropov and Brezhnev were old school communists where he was much more open to the displeasure of much of their party. There was also no Russian version of the free press there at the time (and they are arguably still controlled to this day), so it took a long time for any specific details to emerge.
