Hey everyone. I've been having an issue with YouTube for the past couple days. A known scammer going by the name of "Lasso Entertainment" has begun claiming and blocking my Expanse videos. They claimed my Julie/Miller commentary video and after I disputed it, they released the claim. However, they've now claimed this video as well and blocked my first attempt to upload it. This is me trying again. However, if the block happens again, I'll have to file a dispute and hope for the best. I just wanted to keep you all in the loop. :(

Is there a resolution process that doesn’t involve them? Youtube is heavy on automation and siding with the companies that makes claims. Scammers need to be spaced

Molly Sardella

There isn't much you can do without risk, to be honest. Basically, if I file a dispute, the company that made the claim (in this case 'Lasso Entertainment') gets to decide whether to release their claim/block or not. Last time, they did release their claim. So, I assumed it was made in error (until they did this again and I googled them and discovered they're scammers that do this to a bunch of YouTube channels with different types of content). At this point, if they don't release the current claim, I'm allowed to dispute it one more time. This dispute is more serious, but it's still ultimately in Lasso Entertainment's hands. With a second dispute, they only have two choices - either release their claim or choose to simultaneously delete my video and give me an official YouTube copyright strike for my whole channel. If I receive a strike, then and only then, can I even begin trying to appeal to YouTube for help. The problem here is that, while you are allowed three strikes before YouTube completely deletes your channel, even one strike immediately starts to give you penalties. So, for instance, they can turn off all monetization for all videos, they can refuse to release payment on money that's already in your account, and they can start limiting how often you can upload videos. So, it's almost not worth it to ever even go to the "second dispute" level because if the scammer company really wants to push it, they can possibly destroy your whole channel :(

Is there anything we can do to get these Bozos shut down?

Molly Sardella

Thank you for the offer! I've been tweeting to YouTube, TeamYouTube, and now AlconEnt to see if anyone can help. I know Alcon looks favorably on fans. So, I'm hoping they can let YouTube know that this company is a fraud. If you have twitter, maybe you could retweet or also tweet to one of them?

There's a company in Finland with that name but they don't seem to be involved. I'll send out tweets to the ones you mentioned.

Molly Sardella

Thank you! Yes, I saw the poor company out of Finland has had to deal with people going after them, thinking they're the ones to blame. Through investigating, I've concluded the company in question uses "Lasso Entertainment" on their YouTube account but is actually called "Lasso Group." They seem to be a shell company. Another YouTuber actually tracked down their supposed offices and found no one worked there and when they called their contact number they were threatened and then the number was taken offline. So... yeah. Professional scam artists, indeed.

I'm sure you've seen this vid on the Lasso Group. Goddamn extortionists! I'm surprised Lasso / Billion Dollar Boy didn't copyright claim it. I tweeted this vid to @TeamYouTube and @AlconEnt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4BpAT-8pyE
