A New Hope does a terrific job of building the Star Wars universe. It has charm, the world is a visual spectacle, the characters are likable, the production and set design are high quality, Darth Vader is set up as a terrific villian, the story is engaging throughout and the music is iconic. It's an entertaining and super easy watch. 5 stars. Empire Strikes back. One of the greatest sequels of all time. Does exactly what a successul sequel should- expands the world, develops the characters and progresses the story line. The visuals are fantastic, the tone is much darker and it has one of the most iconic twists in film. 5 stars. Return of the Jedi. A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Definetely the weakest of the three but still a solid 4 star film.

I was born in 1995 so my first exposure to the Star Wars universe was unfortunately the prequels (no disrespect to Revenge of the Sith which I still love), so at the time I naively thought I was having my mind blown, but now I look back and realise how wrong I was. Eventually, my dad showed me the original trilogy and helped set the record straight, because honestly each and every one of these films are just timeless classics for me that I can watch over and over again without ever getting bored. Whenever I watch A New Hope for example, I try to put myself in the shoes of someone in 1977 who was going in to see this movie completely blind, and it must have felt like the first time I saw Fellowship of the Ring, in that you have two films part of an expansive universe that completely broke new ground and tend to come around only once in a lifetime.
