Shirley’s estranged husband is played by Malcolm Jamal Warner, who played Theo on “The Cosby Show”. So when Jeff says “Nice sweater”, and he says “My dad gave it to me”, it’s a reference to “The Cosby Show” (Bill Cosby was known for wearing unique sweaters). Of course, this episode was before anybody knew the truth about Bill Cosby. Malcolm is a very good and nice guy, and was devastated when the truth came out about his TV dad.
