One day, after the events of Dragon Ball Batlle of Gods, Beerus, after his encounter with the Super Saiyan God form, decided to see if there were other peoples he could check the strength. Out of curiosity and a bit because he was bored. During one of those little expedition he visited the Nest of Time and accompanied some time patroller and profited to check what foes Goku had fought in the past. During on this mission he encountered Imperfect Cell and took some liking on him.

Buu and Freezer where already know to him, but Imperfect Cell was something rather new and actually he never see this kind of life before -well, he did but it was different- he must admit. Interested, he analyzed imperfect Cell then it's different evolution and fights and started to have some liking for him. Beerus also witness Cell's doom and as he can't change the past, and seeing how those activities are entertaining, Beerus decided, instead of the forbidden activity to travel time , to visit alternate realities and other universes. Or planned to.

Trying to looks for someone like this Imperfect Cell he faced in one mission. Fortunately his really most interesting first encounter was with Imperfect Cell from another timeline/reality.

This Imperfect Cell (who was more chaotic neutral than evil) was wandering in the universe, challenging any fighter stronger than him. So, he totally accepted Beerus' challenge and go with him in Beerus' realm. The wage for Cell was that if he loses, he will be Beerus' retainer. As Beerus totally defeated him, the Cell accepted to become Beerus' servant, taking care of any needs of the Cat... as well as being a companion with who to interact with, to change from Whis. At the end, Imperfect Cell found his situation not dislikeable and stayed in Beerus' service, albeit with more or less loyalty.

Quickly, Cell became a bit more into be Beerus' "callboy", and Beerus to see Imperfect Cell as a playmate. And teammate for those missions he did along Cell.

During one of those Xenoverse mission, As Beerus has meet Buu before, he proposed him to join the team and go visiting place with powerful people. Going to the Nest of Time for some Xenoverse missions to do but also travell among alternate realities. In one of these missions, along Buu and Imperfect Cell, they visite Hell and met Super Janemba... who was teaming up with Janenpa.

Even if they were the same individual normally, they now were more sibling than one only individual, with Janenpa having his own individual conscience. The fact there two Janemba came from a reality where an anomaly occurred, and two Janemba from different timeline met, bonded up and teamed up, devastating their own universe prior the encounter with Imperfect Cell and Beerus.

A fight occurred and Super Janemba started to get mutual appreciation to Beerus and his team. Seeing the potential playmate-material with Super Janemba, Beerus proposed him to have some different kind of fun... in exchanging their teammate. Janemba found it interesting and Took Buu while Beerus and Cell went to gang Janempa up.
