Hey Everyone!

The French among you might be gearing up to vote on Sunday to see who will run our country for the next 5 years, but there's more important stuff to decide, as in: what are we going to talk about May!

We'll still have the weekly Linux News, of course, as well as A video about ubuntu Touch on the Jingpad (which I couldn't fit this month).

We'll also take a look at Cutefish, and the best email clients for Linux, we'll take a tour of the various open source licenses and explain their differences, and see if Gaming can be the push Linux need to become mainstream.

I'll also look at Mac OS from the viewpoint of a Linux user, and tour the best apps designed for KDE.

And now, here are the topics you can vote on:

- We shouldn't need distros made for specific use cases: we see distributions made for gaming, for multimedia work, for productivity, but these shouldn't be necessary: the main distros should be able to do that out of the box, with minimal work from the user.

- Making Linux user friendly isn't "dumbing it down": there's a weird notion floating around that if we make Linux more accessible to the general public, it will also lose what makes it great, by making it dumber, or more limited. This isn't true, and we'll take a look at why.

- The dichotomy of the Linux desktop: in the same vein, but with bigger words, we have a perception problem on Linux: on the one hand, we want (mostly) to make it more accessible to more people, but on the other hand, a lot of our users are power users that don't really care about simplicity, defaults, and want power and customization. How can we reconcile both?

- Ubuntu Rolling Rhino: an interesting project that turns Ubuntu into a rolling release, thus fixing a few of its current issues. We'll take a look at that!

Pick the ones you prefer, and I'll cover them!

Small heads-up, I'll have some renovation work going on in May, which means that I might not have THAT much time to cover everything. I'll try to, as best I can, but some topics might get pushed back ;)

"We shouldn't need motor vehicles made for specific use cases." Sorry, Nick, that's a dead horse as far as I am concerned. 🤠

Making Linux user friendly isn't "dumbing it down" 👍 Of course, I may be feeling a certain smugness since it was a major triumph for me to get KDE running on Slackware 4.0 in 1999.🤠

The goal is more to say that "mainstream" distros should be good enough that most people can use them for any purpose, instead of having to turn to super specific versions that might not get the same updates, attention, support, or online help :)
