Vote on April's Topics!
- The Best Productivity apps for Linux 19
- The best GNOME apps 26
- Linux apps are crappy: mythbusting 20
- Open Source licenses explained 24
Hey everyone!
I hope you're all doing well!
It's time to vote on the next topics for April, but first, a quick disclaimer: there won't be a patroncast today, as I just broke up with my girlfriend after a 2 year long relationship, and I'm not really feeling like recording something in a chipper / enthusiastic manner, I hope you can forgive me!
Everything will resume like normal next week, of cours e :)
As per the topics, here is what I'll be working on:
- 4 Linux news videos, one every week!
- Open Source alternatives to popular Windows apps: the goal being to try to help Windows users migrate to FOSS, before jumping into Linux. Get your bearings, then transition over!
- A tour of Bottles, a simple and graphical way to get Windows apps running with Wine, cleanly. It's a wonderful little app, and I think it might help people to fix the various app gaps that I won't be able to fill with the previous video ;)
- There will never be a year of the Linux Desktop: time to put that saying to rest, because that's never happening, not because Linux can't grow, because it can't grow overnight and overtake the alternatives in a single year.
- The Jingpad A1 is no longer a paperweight: it's now possible to install Ubuntu touch on it, so I'll take a look at that!
- How to run Android apps on Linux using Waydroid: a tour of the state of Waydroid, if I can get it to work :D
If there's anything interesting to report about the Steam Deck, I might swap one of these topics for something else as well!
Now, for what you can vote on:
- The Best Productivity apps for Linux: knowledge bases, todo lists, time trackers, reminders.. I'll cover them all!
- The best GNOME apps: GNOME has a huge ecosystem of applications, and it's time to showcase them!
- Linux apps are crappy: mythbusting: this one almost made it last time, so it's showing up again!
- Open Source licenses explained: it can be hard to know which licenses allow what, and the dfifference between open source and free software, so I think an explainer video would be handy
Pick the ones you like the most, and I'll work on the 2 that gather the most votes!
