About the restrictions in China, if I recall correctly: 1. Users need to register with their ID for multiplayer games (and probably for mobile games too). This covers most of the gaming demographic there (console and PC gaming is much more rare there) 2. Previous restrictions existed and were enforced (the companies running the servers know the age of the players). So I think companies like Tencent don't really have a choice but to enforce the new restrictions. As for the specific restrictions it's pretty hard to know if fighting addiction is the real goal or if there are other motivations from the CCP. In terms of game design, I agree that it would be good to try to have games not designed to be addictive but to be enjoyable :)

Yeah, not easy to know the real motives behind what the CCP does… I’m just worried that, as these addictive games seem to make more money, they’ll slowly replace most other game types, and I’ll have nothing left to play 😅

Hey Nick, I think it's a great idea that you keep some PO work at least part time. You can have that safety net plus keep practicing your IT skills thus staying employable in that field on the long run. Unless you want to try content creation until retirement or even switch to a complete different career someday which could be nice too.

Yeah, the goal is to have that safety net, to make sure I don’t lose everything I worked on for the past 10 years :) Of course, priorities change, and if I decide to go another route, at least I’ll have made a bit of money along the way!
