Hey everyone!

In today's episode, I discuss how most of our desktop environments already emulate either Windows or macOS, in multiple degrees of similarity, the advantages of making them even more familiar, and the reasons why we probably shouldn't strive to emulate these operating systems more.

As always, comments are welcome to talk about all of this :)

Have a great week!

I think they (developers) will do whatever they want and anyone that wants something else will use that something else. We (users) put way too much stress on choice and 'picking the best' when the best one will be the one you can use - not forced to adapt to use.

It's somewhat of a free market. If there was really the demand for desktops that are Windows or Mac clones I think it would have taken over.

I don't mean to be too glib about the "free market", and ignore the need for longer term strategic thinking. But to me both Windows and Mac are very flawed desktops, and a better long term strategy for Linux is to innovate and make something that's a positive reason to switch. Just being not the other guy and close enough to be familiar is not enough.
