I remember going to a show at Wolf Trap which is this outdoor theater in Northern Virginia (near Langley) and there was this thing at the beginning where they were like "we would like to take a moment of silence in solidarity with the Georgian people in face of Russian aggression," and I also remember seeing footage of Russian troops sitting on top of what I think were boxcars riding the rails to the front line on CNN or something, which would be true if it was true.

Haven't listened yet but my 3 stage reaction to reading the episode title was as follows * Oh, Russo, this is going to be good * Death Squads, yay Liam * Part 1, yes

Yay Liam! Also, that computer animation of the human katamari that Joe texted/tweeted will live rent free in my brain forever.

Liam: "Is the Russian Revolution a WOOOO or a BOOOO?" I'm sorry Joe, but if there was ever a perfect time to blast the first note of the Soviet National Anthem...this was that time.

If you haven’t visited Georgia 🇬🇪 you should. I stopped there, and it was a great experience. The National Georgian Museum was of the best museums I’ve been to, and there’s a whole Soviet Union occupation exhibit that was truly moving an experience to see in person.

Sad to hear the asinine positions you've staked out at the start of this ep. 1. Imagine siding with Saakashvili. South Ossetia is better off under the scumbag Putin, and that's saying something. At least Putin doesn't broadcast a ceasefire to get them back in their homes and proceed to blast them. 2. "nato is the best way for..." vs "south ossestians THINK Russia is the best way for..." lol. yes, we noticed. anyway, joining an anti-Russian military alliance is only "the best way" for countries to exit the "sphere of influence" during the period when Russia is on its knees, defenceless and being ravaged by the yeltsin/clinton/gaidar gang. It's actually not good strategy to pretend that's still the case. 3. Congrats on agreeing with the most unhinged neocons in the GOP. Sad to hear the imperialist in your head is still breathing.

For one, I'm pretty sure we made it abundantly clear we think Saakashvili is a scumbag. For two, we said multiple times that NATO sucks, but when your next to a neighbor that wants to wage a war against you, you find allies where you can. Furthermore, they weren't even Georgia's ally. NATO, Russia, and Georgia can all be bad at the same time, which is another fact we constantly talked about. I'm unsure if you're honking on that shit that killed JFK or what, but I have no idea how you can call us "imperialists" when the entire point of this series was to show that the Alans and Abkhaz have the right to rule themsleves any way they see fit, and it is pretty goddamn clear their goals were subsumed by Russia's in order to subjugate Georgia, who was also a previous target of their imperialism. It is incredibly weird to see how powerless Georgia was in this situation, how much Russia was extracting from them, and still think Russia is the good guy here. And lastly, fuck off.

I'm not the guy who said "i side with [either dude]" and "nato membership is the only way to escape Russia" at the start of his podcast. Sounds like you want to back off those claims but you're offended that someone noticed em? "Powerless", lol. Not to the national minorities they weren't powerless. Saakashvili's long-standing political project was to subjugate them. But we're still Team Saakashvili because Putin wants to subjugate Georgia? What is the substance of that subjugation anyway? This question brings us back to nato and the strategy behind these frozen conflicts. No one is surprised that small countries look for whatever ally, just like no one should be surprised when countries respond to an "anti-me-specifically-alliance" setting up shop on their border or the indiscriminate shelling of civilians on said border. It's not rocket science.

Yeah. I too think it's really anooying when I'm one million percent invested in one side of a conflict and some asshole says something I don't agree fully with. It means they're either stupid or evil, or both.

I laughed so hard at the Rapping Joseph Stalin moment. Then I remembered a famous sage out of Oakland... J.Stalin
