Regarding superstition as an alternative to strong institutions: my understanding is that “Chinese Traditional Medicine” is as systematized as it is because Mao wanted to save money on healthcare. (Also hence why China still doesn’t have socialized healthcare.)

I transited through CDG a week ago for the first time.
