A leader getting killed by a monk or a sufi scholar he knew for years had a big psychological impact. Therefore, a lot of the fidai'n had to study language, geopolitics and theology (and, shockingly, drugs don't make you better at studying). According to professors and scholars of Islamic studies like Azim Nanji and Farhad Daftary, the idea they got stoned to believe this was the paradise they would reach after completing the mission is legend.
