[Finally done, eh Tiny? I’m impressed, I seriously didn’t think you’d last this long.]

When he emerges from the consultation, head aching, Tiny finds his master waiting in the chamber he is to evolve in, a huge core held in his jaws. Tiny winces when he sees it. He remembers the sting of those things.

He rubs at his head as a phantom pain echoes at the top of his scalp.

[Yeah, I know. It’s going to suck, but it needs to be done. You’ve got a better chance of getting a mythic evolution than the other two, but it’ll all go to waste if you don’t evolve with a fully pumped up core.]

His master approaches and nudges at Tiny’s arm with one antenna until he opens his hand so the giant ant can deposit the gem onto his palm.

[You’re just like me,] his master says. [A first stratum monster who was never meant to make it this far. I’m proud of you Tiny. You’ve done a great job to survive this long. And you managed to punch the heck out of a ton of monsters on the way.]

Tiny grins broadly and instinctively flexes while giving a thumbs up, waggling his eyebrows. Anthony laughs.

[That’s a new move. After this evolution, you'll probably be back to being bigger than me, I assume. Don’t let it get to your head, and don’t start thinking you’re invincible. You might hit the hardest, but you take the fewest punches out of all of us. Make sure you toughen yourself up.]

The great ape frowned. He’d never thought of it that way. His punches were the strongest, but he couldn’t take punches himself? That didn’t sound right. That sounded
weak. Tiny wasn’t weak! He was the strongest!

Determined, he clutched the core tight in his fist. Seeing this, his master turned to leave.

[Alright, I’ll leave you to it. See you on the other side, big guy.]

Taking in the core was painful, as always. The moment he was done, Tiny engaged the evolution menu.

[Would you like to use the evolution menu?]

[Congratulations on reaching the maximum level for your current species. Evolution will allow you to change your form and increase your stats as a monster.

Warning: evolving will make securing XP and Biomass more difficult as fewer rewards are given for preying on creatures less evolved than yourself.

Your evolution options are as follows:

  • Elder Kong
  • Silverback Shadow Kong
  • Winged Collapsing Fist (special)
  • Stone Ape Shadow Boxer (special)
  • Ape Fury Fist (rare)
  • Heavyweight Champion Kong (rare)
  • Flicker Footed Boxer Kong (rare)
  • Stone Ape of the Mountain Heart (Mythic)
  • Elder Kong of the Storm Summit (Mythic)

Two mythic options. His master had been right, as usual. Flicker Footed Boxer Kong sounded fantastic though
.

Tiny shook his head. No, he would ignore it. As much as he loved his fancy feet, he had other things he needed to focus on right now. Punching, and getting punched! Resolute, he turned his attention to the mythic options.

[Mythic Evolution: Stone Ape of the Mountain Heart (Mythic). -20 Bonus to Cunning, +80 Bonus to Will, +250 Bonus to Toughness, +200 Bonus to Might. Your bones are as solid as the mountain, so too shall your flesh be unbreakable. Your blood flows through the mountain heart, and it nourishes your strength. Become Indomitable. Musculature will be reforged with Living Granite. A mountain heart will be granted for free. A magmavascular system will be granted for free.]

That was a lot of Toughness, and a lot of Might to go along with it! Tiny’s eyes gleamed as he considered just how large and powerful his physique would be with these sorts of numbers. A musculature reforge as well, just what he wanted. Living Granite sounded good!

He would become durable, able to absorb much more punishment, which meant he could keep dishing it out. This was excellent!

Tiny recalled that he’d been warned he had to read all of the best options, not that he saw the point. He rolled his eyes and turned his attention to the next one.

[Mythic Evolution: Elder Kong of the Storm Summit (Mythic). -20 Bonus to Cunning, +50 Bonus to Will, +150 Bonus to Toughness, +300 Bonus to Might. Lightning crashes against the mountain peak and the stone is unmoved. You are the storm. You are the summit. Unbreakable you stand, endless is your fury. Lightning Mana Glands will be reforged with tempest glass. Musculature will be reforged with silver infused flesh. A storm heart will be granted for free. ]

Now this
this was also interesting. There were many words here that Tiny liked. Unbreakable! Endless fury! Lightning! Also a musculature mutation, with metal of some sort? Why not!

And
 so
 much
 Might!

He would have to make up for the lack of toughness in other ways, of course. The stone people had told him of several and he almost remembered them.

He grinned.

This was going to be incredible.

CentaureHeart

Oh boy. This is the first Evolution we see with a decrease in a stat right? Edit : I don't like the Mountain one because it doesn't follow the lightning trend, BUT it gives more stat, more Toughness and it's not an "Elder" which should mean it's not already the end of an evolutionary line.

Yanni

Anthony just put 30 points into his cunning and 20 of those are going away. Also two Mythic options, wow.

Anonymous

I believe Tiny’s previous evolutions have also had it but he adjusts it by adding more in the manual part

Anonymous

-20 cunning
..

Gonvas

All his evolutions had a decrease in cunning. That's why his species doesn't make it far in the wild xD

CentaureHeart

Yeah I forgot about that, well Anthony told him to keep it above a certain level so hopefully he listens.

Anonymous

Nice. Can you write more about evolution tables. If it is too hard you don't have too but it makes the story more interesting. Also pls write an chapter about the phobos meeting anthony again. You could also make that the phobos also fuse in to the colony like the human city's. 👍

Crazy Abe

Yah, those "-cunning" debuffs really show why so few of Tiny's species make it this far when combined with their love of hitting things hard.

sebsebs

Will we get a time skip/pov change while our 3 friends sleep and evolve ? If I recall correctly it takes a while at this stage

Anonymous

Unbreakable bones, now metal muscle, feel like the other mythic is a tease for his next evolution where his skin is some kind of conductive metal also. Essentially becoming a literal tank as well as figurative. The party is shaping up nicely.

Gopard

Thanks for the chapter!

alt31415

Haha, I knew Tiny would do it! Though some of the things in Elder Kong of the Storm Summit are missing capitalization.

Rahsheem Reid

Lol @ almost remembered them.

Anonymous

I think that was the name of the dwarves that create pets. If I'm wrong pls correct me 🙏

Grey Knight Lord

Considering that Sarah is getting a second Rage Heart, maybe he can invest in a Mountain Heart from the other Mythic Evolution. Lightning and Mountain Heart fusion seems OP.

Nathan Quitugua

Thats what im curious about. Do the stat boosts add up over the evolutions or is it like a flat bonus thats given that replaces the previous tier. Ergo = all the stat boosts from the last couple of tiers add up to like +600 or so might/toughness or does it completely replace the previous bonus so +200 is the new inherent buff?

CentaureHeart

For me it's added up to what you had before. But with the Evolutionnary energy you can put more points in the stats.

Roombot

You could say he's an.... APEx predator

David Burchfield

Just remembering one of the old lore teasers where he is referred to as "The Storm" from the POV of someone from the future. I am wondering if he can somehow buff his strength using lightning now. Really pleased that my reasoning and call out from the last chapter was right with Tiny being offered a Mythic Evolution (2 even).

Nathan Quitugua

Hey Rinoz, if you could, could you create a new collection on here with just the most updated status for both BoD and Chrysalis?

Anonymous

What the bonus does is it gives stats that you can invest without using evolutionary energy. It’s not a boost that can be taken away, it’s free stat points that, once invested, become a part of you. Functionally, it stacks because of this.

Isiah Debarros

Yeah, his bones made of rock muscle made of metal. I wonder what his skin is going to be made of

Greyg

It will likely jump to side stories and world building elsewhere going by past evolutions.

Rahsheem Reid

I think that’s why he got silver running within him he can literally conduct lightning too his very core.

Rahsheem Reid

Some kind of conductive extra tough fur like obsidian skin with diamond fur.

Rahsheem Reid

Yeah unless RinoZ does what RinoZ does
like Anthony exploring the 5th or the slugs coming too him or the Karmadoo probing the colony. The wave is over and now the legion could move on them.

Grey Knight Lord

Honestly, terrible metal. Silver is soft, but quite conductive. Copper is harder than silver and the best conductor.

Grey Knight Lord

I have a slight issue with Tiny’s Silver Infused muscles. Copper would be a better option. It’s a tougher metal in general to Silver which is soft, and copper is a better conductor of electricity than silver.

David Burchfield

@Grey Knight Lord. I agree on the silver I am hoping he will retcon it into "storm silver" or some other magical material, but I do think having a conductive metal for his flesh will allow him to juice his muscles up with electricity like Rahsheem suggested.

Anonymous

But if it’s hard, would it function as a muscle? Infusing metal into muscles is a strange idea unless it’s got some special properties.

TheRaptorOfHermes

Rinoz , i am sorry but on behalf of tiny and the rest of the powerful idiots that rule the world, i take offense. Tiny should follow his own path. look at MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES anime. Although... the brain is the most powerful muscle.... hmmm.. paradox detected... error shutting down. Please ignore previous muscle headed rant , keep calm and ant on.

Eli Mek

What?, I pretty sure that silver is the best conductive metal, and the only reason we use copper and aluminium for most wiring is because of their greater abundance compared to silver.

Grey Knight Lord

Just looked it up and you are right. I was told by a teacher that copper was the best and I guess i toon it to fact.

Elmithian

It is the best cost and lastability wise. It is the best we can get without things getting way too expensive.

taukid

It starts to feel a little predictable when the option chosen is ALWAYS the last one. Although the other mythic option gave a bunch more stats and had the same amount of freebies. Not that tiny is great at min maxing but I thought most on the same level of rarity have about the same amount of stats

Tony Starrk

Neither Crinis nor Invidia took the last option. Also, stat wise there was only 30 points of difference between the two Mythics.

Vora_Vixen

Interesting title, been playing bg3? ;p
