About the Ryan Reynolds being gay cameo (and yes, he was already famous at this time): It seems clear that you didn't watch the TV show "Family Guy". The reason "Ted" was so successful is because of that show. "Ted" was written, directed and starred Seth MacFarlane (as the voice of Ted). Seth MacFarlane is the creator of Family Guy and he also does the voices of many of the characters on that show including Peter Griffin (the main character), Stewie Griffin (the famous talking baby) and Brian Griffin (their talking dog) plus many, many other characters. Even if you haven't watched the show, I'm sure you know/have seen the characters. Seth MacFarlane also created two other big animated shows, "American Dad" (which he also does many voices) and "The Cleveland Show" (a spinoff of Family Guy). So, "Ted" was MacFarlane's first movie. Many of the actors in "Ted" are also voice actors on Family Guy. The main actress in the movie (Mila Kunis) does the voice of Meg Griffin, Peter Griffin's daughter. Mila Kunis is also famous for the TV show "That 70s Show" and for the Natalie Portman movie "Black Swan". As I said, Seth MacFarlane does the voice of Ted, and Ted's voice is very similar to Peter Griffin's. In the movie, there was a moment in the party scene where Ted says "Come on, I don't sound THAT much like Peter Griffin." (This is the clip of him saying it: https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/0fd8bd8e-d794-41c5-b7fd-7501da311ada). Patrick Warburton who played John's (Mark Wahlberg) co-worker at the car rental place (who ends up being Ryan Reynolds's gay lover) does the voice of Joe Swanson, the intense paraplegic cop on Family Guy. John's mom at the beginning of the movie is Alex Borstein, who voices Peter Griffin's wife, Lois. Robert Wu, who played the Asian guy with the duck, does the voice of Asian characters on Family Guy. Patrick Stewart is the voice of the narrator in "Ted" and he plays a big character on "American Dad", MacFarlane's other big show. Patrick Stewart is also Professor X in the X-Men movies, Captain Pickard on the Star Trek TV shows, and Stewart has played himself multiple times on Family Guy. There's a lot of in-jokes from Family Guy in "Ted". The edgy humor in "Ted" is the same in Family Guy. "Ted" is 10 times funnier if you watched FG beforehand. And there's others, but about the Ryan Reynolds cameo; there's a whole Family Guy episode with Ryan Reynolds playing himself on the show. The episode is called "Stewie Goes for a Drive" from season 10, which aired in November 2011 (a year before "Ted" came out). The episode revolved around Ryan moving into Peter Griffin's neighborhood and Peter suspects Ryan is gay because Ryan keeps flirting and hitting on Peter. So, Ryan Reynolds being Patrick Warburton's lover in "Ted" was a callback to this episode of Family Guy. It's one of the funniest episodes of the show. Here are some clips of that episode with Reynolds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4loPgFwcXA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk1SjN8EuyA&t=207s https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stewie_Goes_for_a_Drive
