That was so much fun! I do enjoy that I can actually watch parody movies right now and actually get the references! I wonder how the original Top Gun cast loved this one? I can imagine it's a really massive compliment when you see a really good parody made on something you created yourself.

I can imagine there were also references that I didn't get, so let me know those ones!

I love movies like this, but their heyday was definitely the 80s and 90s. Once we got into the 2000s, with things like EPIC MOVIE, DATE MOVIE, etc., I feel they got a little lazy. They weren't so much "spoofing" other movies as just recreating specific scenes and throwing one or two jokes in there. Ones like HOT SHOTS and THE NAKED GUN and of course AIRPLANE (the template for all of these) had a lot more wit to them, and a true sense of the ridiculous. :) Also, you didn't necessarily have to have seen all the movies they were spoofing to get most of the humor. Incidentally, I think the sequel to HOT SHOTS ("Part Deux") is even funnier. :) And another underrated one from the 80s is TOP SECRET!

The scene where he is carrying her up the stairs is 'Gone With the Wind.'

Watching Mary catch one joke in ten made seeing this movie again so much funnier, it's like there's two movies playing at once. <3 <3 <3

Hi Mary, have you heard of DVD commentaries? That's when the director or film makers or actors watch the movie and talk about it, it's on an additional audio track on special DVD releases. I haven't heard one in a while now. You might like this, it says... on the Top Gun Special Collector's Edition (?) there is a new commentary by Jerry Bruckheimer (producer), Tony Scott (director) and naval experts. It also has documentaries and extra footage. Let me look for other examples...

Movie commentaries started on Criterion Collection which, were they on Laserdiscs or other format? It says "the first ever commentary track was for King Kong (1933)" on the 1984 Laserdisc release. An article lists the top 5 director commentaries, 5. Speed - commentary by Jan de Bont 4. Aliens - by James Cameron and the Cast & Crew 3. Dances With Wolves - by Kevin Costner & Producer Jim Wilson 2. Titanic - by James Cameron 1. Lord of the Rings - by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens
