I don't know if I agree with fans who say this show is better than Breaking Bad, but I will certainly agree that its at LEAST as good. Asking which one I think is better is genuinely hard for me. However, for nostalgic purposes, Breaking Bad wins. Better Call Saul is the rare example of a spinoff being JUST as good as its parent show. Angel the Series is another.

I definitely think it is better than Breaking Bad, The characters simply have more depth and are more real to me.

Jeffrey Miller

I'm excited to watch this with you! I watched the first two seasons which were great. I kinda dropped off after that and that was a long time ago so I'm sure a lot will still be new to me.

For goodness sake TAKE A BREAK! We want you at your best and we understand and aren't going anywhere.

Better Call Saul is finally here. It is so good to see Mike The Wise man again. Jonathan Banks has become my favorite actor. Mike, Kim, and Nacho are my favorite characters on this show. Biznatch is basically the non cursing way of saying bitch or bitch ass which I don't know why Thing 1 and Thing 2 called Tuco's grandma that. Saying it that way doesn't make it any less insulting lol. I am shocked Tuco didn't kill all three of them. By the way Mary, the two guys that were with Tuco and Nacho, those are the two guys in Breaking Bad season one and two. Tuco's henchman. Tuco beat one of them up to death and hid his body in that car junkyard. And the other guy went back to retrieve him, but the cars fell on him, pinning him and killing him in season 2 epi 1 of Breaking Bad. Betsy and Craig Kettleman, I call them Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Betsy being Tweedledum lol. I want more lol. So happy to relive this series with you. Breaking Bad ran from 2008-2013. Better Call Saul ran from 2015-2022. I thought it started in 2017. The El Camino movie came out in 2019, which is why some of the characters looked older.

I personally prefer this show to BrBa, but I think it's mostly because I love character deep dives. All the characters on this show are so fleshed out and interesting.

The black and white scene is great because the last time Saul saw Walter he said the best case scenario for his new life was managing a Cinnabon in Omaha, exactly what he ended I’m doing

I agree, I think the folks involved in breaking bad were at the top of their game when that show ended, and we’re able to pivot to start making a stellar show with BCS right from the get go

Go back to the "Better Call Saul" episode of BrBa, S2E8. When Walt and Jessie have Saul kneeling in front of an open grave, it takes Saul just a few minutes of talking to gain the upper hand on them -- this scene in which he negotiates with Tuco is so identical to that it's crazy. And his comment at the end: I just got your death sentence reduced to a few months probation, I'm the greatest lawyer in the world. It's obvious going in that Jimmy wasn't going to die that day in the desert. But when it comes down to rhetorical skills, you can never bet against him.

When they first met in BrBa season 2 episode 8, Walt was posing as Badger's uncle, last name Mayhew. Hearing that, Saul assumed Walt to be Irish and told him that his real name was Jimmy McGill. This show begins with the revelation that he was telling the truth. There is a parallel between Jimmy's conversion to Saul and Walt's conversion into Heisenberg. Not a significant plot point, but Jimmy is really into old movies. The Ned Beatty speech from Network (1976) is a classic. The montage of public defending at the end of episode 2 is an homage to Roy Scheider's montage in the movie All That Jazz. In that one he opens each day by standing in front of his bathroom mirror, putting in eyedrops, popping two amphetamine tablets, and saying "It's showtime, folks!"

Actually, in the episode of Breaking Bad where Saul is first introduced, he only says his name is McGill, he doesn't say Jimmy. And yea, I actually edited a video of the Better Call Saul references to "Network" and "All That Jazz" with the original movie scenes for Mari last night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n37MGiUBfVE

ok, a little late. but Im here. lol. Excellent! When you said, at the end of El Camino I believe, that you would be taking a break for a bit I assumed it was baby related so, wasn't expecting this for some time. But thats awesome that youre doing it the way you are. Just whatever pace works for you. That being said, Im here for this journey as well. Cant wait! Enjoy! Love your vids

Jack the Narrator

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but Ep. 2 of BCS sets up what would ultimately be the undoing of Tuco's henchman: No-Doze & Gonzo. In this episode, No-Doze makes a joke/suggestion to Jimmy while Tuco was in the process of threatening his intended victims, Tuco pauses to stare at him, and coldy says "Stop helping". When this happened on Breaking Bad's final episode of Season One (extending into Season Two), Tuco beat No-Doze to death. Gonzo would die later that night trying to retrieve No-Doze's body at the junkyard.
