2018 Comic Survey Results, Analysis, Discussion (Patreon)

Had almost 200 people respond to the survey - which is good! That's a lot more than I was expecting. Here's some results and thoughts on them. It's a lot, so I apologise in advance for the wall of text and pie charts!

LONDONERS

Looks like this one had an equal split. This is perfect, because this is the balance I'll be going for in the webcomic. I'm mostly just happy to know that everyone is looking for what I'm wanting to provide with this one.

THE PLEASURE PRINCIPLE

This one surprised me. The takeaway I'm getting here is that half the audience is meh on the story/characters and wants me to get to the porn. Ironically, this comic has been my most story-focused one yet, and the intention was that it would escalate in eroticism as it progressed. As some of you may remember, chapter 1 had no sex in it at all. Maybe the lack of sex in this series so far has led to a skewed answer, I dunno. There will be sex, but I need to set up all the varying players and their schemes first.

THIRD COMIC OPTION

This one is funny because that third chunk there is mostly people asking for Dynamite comics. Poor Vera, instantly forgotten when the new hotness arrives! XD I do have an idea for a short comic about her trying to go on dates (and I could maybe have Vera be her wingman in one part). I've thought of doing more of my One Shots comics (maybe as two-pagers called Double Shots) and that could be a test run for it.

People also asked about a Krystal comic. I have something in the works, but I can't talk about it just yet.

I think that a Nightshade comic will become the third comic that will run alongside Pleasure Principle and Londoners, when SASA is finished. I just hope I don't see a massive drop off in patron support like the last time I took a break from Puzzle comics. I can't do the same thing all the time. I'll burn out. I nearly did with SASA part 2. Hopefully Londoners being heavily Puzzle/Di-focused will help with that.

NIGHTSHADE OPTIONS

This is where things get tricky. It's a pretty even split between the various Nightshade comic options. I'm going to tease some details about the various comic ideas, to better explain what to expect from them:

1) Night Sessions - (the blue pie chunk) This would be framed as an interview Pat is doing with Night, about her dominatrix days. It'd be a series of short comics. I'm not really into BDSM, but I like the psychological/power play stuff, so that's what the focus would likely be, instead of the harsher physical elements. The stories/clients would range from intense to sweet, and we see various aspects of Night's personality. The last story is about Pat getting cucked, which I know is not everyone's thing, but the idea was to bring Markus into the story and have it be a 'let me show you some hints/tips' thing. Maybe some bisexual tinged elements, too.

2) The Genuine Article - (the red pie chunk) This would be a multi-chapter sex romp of a story, sort of like Misplaced Virtues. It'd focus on Pat's coworkers wanting to have fun with Night, and so they book a hotel room for the weekend and have an orgy. The focus is basically sex, having casual fun, and some bromance/bonding. It works as a sequel to both Night Sessions and Bucking the System, because Pat is now more comfortable with bringing guys into the bedroom. Also, each of the guys would have different tones with Night, some more lewd, some sweeter.

3) Dinner and a Show - (the orange pie chunk) This is a short comic, and is about Night teasing Pat at a restaurant, where she pops her boobs out and plays with the thrill of getting seen/caught. It'd have suspenseful and comical elements. I think many prefer Pat/Night feel good content where she's helping him explore kinks, and this comic may be 'safer' than the other two.

They're all pretty evenly split, but I do worry that Nightshade in general tends to alienate people, so that's why this would be a third comic option. Also, Night doesn't show up in Londoners for at least two chapters, so it'll be years before she's in the webcomic, so I want to do something with her in the meantime.

I should also add that I have considered splitting the Markus part of Night Sessions off into its own story, and maybe save the others for a novel like Bucking the System or something. I also am more interested in showing Night/Pat with others in comics because... well, it's fun to see Night indulging XD Plus, Londoners shows how Pat/Night became a couple, so the side comics show something different.

THIRD COMIC ART STYLE

Pretty much what I expected. Most of you seem okay with a sketchier comic, or at least something in-between full colour and sketchy. Knowing how refined my sketches are, I could see this taking on a flat-coloured style like the commission vignettes I've done. I know some may have found the second option a bit strongly-worded, but I was looking for honest opinions, and with the anonymity of the poll, I felt I could get real answers this way. And as you can see, it got nearly 40% of the vote anyway.

FINAL THOUGHTS

So it seems overall, you guys are wanting a nice balance of content in Londoners, more sex in Pleasure Principle, a Dynamite comic, and some sort of Nighshade comic, with an art style in-between sketchy and full colour.

This mostly works, because Londoners will be balanced in content, Pleasure Principle will get more smutty as it progresses, I have an idea for a Dynamite mini comic, and the Nightshade comic will be in some kind of sketchy colour format. I think the main question is which Nightshade comic to work on first...
