October 2021 Theme Choices:

The overarching theme this month will be, “Otherwise” (explained below).

In conjunction with that, we also have theme choices below.

The top 4 options from here will go on to be featured in one each of the 4 main images next month. I will allocate each theme based on what works best for each image.

Also bear in mind that no matter what wins, everything will be on the table next month, even recently done characters. 😉 I’ll then come up with a concept for the piece based on one of the 4 themes.

So… What is “Otherwise”?

Otherwise is an annual holiday (that I’ve just created) that celebrates what’s different.

If Christmas is about family and thanksgiving is about being grateful, then this is about facing your fears, allowing yourself to be unique or even just taking one day to pretend to be someone or something else. For example, perhaps you want to be exuberant and outspoken even though you’re usually introverted?

There’s a power in embracing outcasts, those who are different, things that scare us, our superstitions, our myths and legends etc.

It’s a time where you can feel sexy, or scary, or connected to something spooky or ancient.

At its core, it’s a time to say to the darkness, “I’m not afraid of you and you have nothing to be afraid of from me… let’s respect each other and peacefully coexist”.

As before, I’ve taken some of them, some of my own and some general remixed versions of everything, and this is what we’ve got for next months options:

Born This Way

This theme would be related to someone who is born with a physical difference or deformity.

Crush

There’s nothing more innocent than having a crush on someone… unless perhaps you take things a little TOO far…😏 This would be an image of the subject from the POV of someone who is crushing hard on them… in secret… possibly from the bushes outside their window 😜

Himbo Supreme

We all know that girl who dies first at the start of the horror movie. You know the one… she always has us screaming out, “No girl!! Don’t do it!!” 😅

Essentially, this is the male equivalent.

Jack-O-Vision

A certain marvel show is due a rewatch now that it’s almost the season of scarlet witches, but it also inspired this theme. This would take the character(s) you love and put them in the setting of a horror movie they wouldn’t normally be found in.

Love Thyself

Depending on the picture, this could be some quality alone time or a character with another version of themselves. Duo’s could also potentially contain twins, clones, time duplicates, multiple reality versions, what-if’s, spinoffs, doppelgängers and different characters portrayed by the same actor.

Monster Mashup

Take your favourite character in one hand and your favourite monster, alien or creature in the other. Then smush 'em together and let's see what happens! A Genre-Swapping, hero-twisting design challenge, perfect for Otherwise.

Pumpkin Spicy

A theme dedicated to that magical time of year when the falling leaves create a unique harvest colour palette. This theme might, for example, feature guys who will play in cornfields, make love on bales of hay, wrestle with scarecrows and drink pumpkin spice lattes.

ReverSoul

This theme would take a character and invert something about them e.g. their role, their gender etc.

The Season of the Witch

Magic, spell casting, people running afoul of witches… any and all could be part of this theme, but either way, it’s sure to be a magical experience. 😉

Tricks & Treats

Sugar & Spice. Naughty & Nice. Pranksters & Popping Candy. This theme would be one for impish, mischief makers and rascals with a sweet tooth.

No Theme Month

Let’s face it… Some people are not going to like any of the suggestions for a certain month. That’s why each month will always have ‘No Theme’ as a valid option on the poll. If you like none of the themes mentioned above, then this is the theme for you.
