I recently bought one of Silverjow's Gumroad packs : https://gumroad.com/silverjow

I went over his 24 image set for the sommelier and the workfile included with it and I realised that while I had a lot of basics of what I wanted to do down, I had been doing them in the wrong order and missing some layer elements that had forced me to try and work out other means of doing things.

So I've spent some time this morning recoloring Quill from last monday, who as you will remember is not part of this month's packs. Just a fun bonus for me to use and experiment with.

Before anyone says it, no i don't think there's something wrong with how I do things and no I don't want to be Silverjow. I love Silverjow's art, who doesn't, but I am personally obsessed with comics and lineart. I cannot properly color in the comic boook style in procreate as it lacks the tools, and a more painterly approach is all I am left with and it has been one of my weaker points. Taking inspiration from Silverjow's process has 'fixed' some bad habits and wrongul ideas of mine.

For a first attempt I think this went really quite well.

I'm glad this has helped you figure out a few things, this set's turned out looking pretty cool! Can't wait to see what this does for your art style going forwards ☺️

That’s nice Conor. I’ll have to experiment a lot. Adapt it into how I feel most comfortable. Test a few more things. I’ll need a few more tutorials online as well. It’s crazy to imagine how many issues were fixed by learning how another artist uses the overlay layer. What else don’t I know. :)

For someone who is learning how to draw (or trying to) this is really useful and encouraging. 😊
