“You look lost…” The dirty man’s words were barely understandable. “Maybe you oughta let me help you out…”

“We’re fine,” James replied.

The man staggered closer laughing.

“Back off, now.” James was clear and loud.

“Says…” Before he could finish his retort, the vagrant stumbled out of the middle of the alley and caught his balance only by virtue of careening into the wall.

He slumped down to the ground and watched as James led Claire quickly past him.

“Check the Map App… did you put in the right numbers?” James said to Claire when they reached the main street at the end of the Alley.

The plan had been to meet an agent who represented some almost-A-list artists at his favorite club. It was sort of a niche-themed club called Back Alley One. It had an address on a major street, but its entrance was to the side in the alley.

Claire pulled out her phone and checked. “Oh no…”

“What?” James asked.

“It auto-filled ‘Walnut Street South.’ We were trying to get to ‘Walnut Street North.’”

“Okay…” James laughed. “That explains a lot. Back to the car…”

“I’m sorry, James,” Claire shook her head and pointed in the direction where they had parked.

“No biggie,” James replied, finally letting her free from his embrace. “No biggie at all. We’re fine, and we have plenty of time.”
