Part of the Complex Connections storyline.

Roman looked across the hotel lobby at Hayes where she stood waiting. He was anxious to get off the call; it should be the last distraction for the rest of the day.

Roman went to where she waited and said to his business partner, Hanah Davis, who was on the phone, “Hold on one second… okay?”

He didn’t wait for her to respond before muting the call and looking at Hayes. “Almost done. Want me to just meet you on the beach?”

“Sure,” Hayes replied with a smile. “See you there.”

Roman watched her cross the lobby to the elevators, then went back to Hanah. “Okay… listen… all this can wait until tomorrow. There’s nothing we can do until the client is back in the office. It’s a problem, to be sure, but really, I think it’s an easy fix.”

“I agree,” Hanah replied. “I just wanted to give you a heads-up.”

“Thanks.”

Hanah paused, then added. “Hayes’s mom and I were talking yesterday. She says Hayes is… very happy with her job.”

Roman smiled. “Good to know. I’m very happy having her.”

Hanah laughed. “That’s obvious… You too seem to get along well. She’s made you into a human.”

“What’s that mean?” Roman asked. “You were pretty much a robot before! Go enjoy your last afternoon in Miami. Do something hot and sandy!”

Roman laughed. “That is exactly the plan.”

Roman hurried to his room and put on his swim trunks and a light shirt to wear between his room and the beach, then headed off after Hayes. When he was in the elevator going down, his thoughts drifted back to New York and for a moment, he mixed his experiences there with a little imagination.

He shook his head and mumbled to himself. “I’m going to lose my partnership and end up jobless, if I don’t control myself.”

As quickly as he could, he made his way to where Hayes waited. When she saw him approach, she raised up and smiled.

“There you are!” Her tone was playful and friendly.

Roman smiled. “Everything’s fine. Hannah just wanted to check in.”

Hayes nodded. “We’ll take care of it tomorrow. I’m sure you can straighten it out.”

Roman smiled and settled down beside Hayes. She flipped around how she was sitting and they both got ready for a nice day on the beach.

Roman was pleased to have learned from Hanah that Hayes was happy. He knew he was.
