my favourite thing about nekoma and karasuno’s friendship is how supportive they are of each other while fully acknowledging each other as rivals. the blocker literally just met hinata and already calls him by his first name and even going “that was awesome, shoyo” . it’s not just karasuno that’s waiting to see how much hinata can do but also nekoma.

I love how they all have their “match” in Nekoma. They are so similar in personality but so different in play style. —— Kenma (the Nekoma setter) is not a genius in the way Kageyama is but yes definitely great at analyzing and strategizing. —— Karasuno is in the Miyagi prefecture and Nekoma is in Tokyo. For them to face each other in a real match they both have to win in their prefecture and go to nationals. Then there’s no saying if they’ll be matched up or end up losing before they face each other. Like they were saying, year after year, they either didn’t qualify for nationals or lost before they faced each other. Eventually their coaches retired and the rivalry went away. —— Rivals are there to compete with you and push you to be better. So when the two coaches retired and they stopped doing practice matches with each other, they lost their rivals that pushed them to be better. Both teams started to decline. Now that they met again they are already looking for ways to improve. —— Yes! Hinata is definitely the least technically skilled on our team AND has the least experience. But we all see his potential especially when Kageyama is the one setting. That’s why practice matches are so important because it’s low stakes; you can try new and different plays, find your weaknesses, and strengthen them before the real matches begin. And I agree, it’s great writing that they are able to show Hinata struggling and the team losing.
